Eat a Cornish Pasty
A visit to Looe wouldn’t be complete without a Cornish pasty. The traditional pasty contains steak and veg – steak at one end of the pasty, veg at the other. Nowadays pasties come in all shapes and sizes. If you want to take them home, then most places will sell boxes of ten. You can see pasties being made at Sarah’s Pasties on Buller Street.
Buy Fresh Fish from Pengelly’s
Looe is a fishing town and has its own fleet. The boats are mainly day boats, some using nets, others trawl. The fish landed at the quay is famously fresh. You cannot buy direct from the fish market, but just next to the market is Pengelly’s which sell beautiful fresh fish. If you fancy catching or buying your own mackerel, Ella will grill it for your lunch for you – you can’t beat a fresh mackerel salad.

Fishing and boat trips are available in abundance. Stroll along the quay and you’ll see dozens of boats offering to take you around the island (you can also land on it) , glass-bottomed boats like Boatzer, fishing trips short and long. Mackerel fishing for a couple of hours, or full day trips for conger eel and shark fishing. We can arrange trips for you, or you can chat to the skippers yourself at the quayside.
